2 day introductory workshop

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an integrative, experiential, and nonpathologizing therapeutic model created by the American psychologist and Family Therapist Dr. Richard Schwartz.

Contents

In this intro workshop you will be introduced to the IFS model in its entirety, and we will give you a brief outline of the most important theories behind it (Systemic, Attachment and Trauma Theory). We will particularly elaborate on the following:

  • Protective parts: “managers” and “firefighters”
  • Vulnerable parts: “exiles”
  • The Self
  • The Therapist’s Self and own parts
  • The therapeutic relationship
  • IFS as a development path

You will gain a clear understanding of what a complete IFS therapeutic process consists of from start to finish, and you will be able to use the workshop as inspiration for yourself and your clients in relation to working with protective parts.

Target group for the intro workshop: Psychologists, psychotherapists, psychology and psychotherapist students, as well as professional caregivers who work with couples, families and individuals in crisis or with the interaction between body and psyche.

Teaching method: The workshop consists of presentations, exercises and meditations. During the workshop, we will do 2 live demonstrations of an IFS session with the teacher as an IFS therapist and a volunteer participant from the group as a client.

Teacher

Peter Legård Nielsen, Certified IFS therapist, IFSI Approved Clinical Consultant, supervisor, organizer of the official IFS trainings in the Nordic countries and Authorized Advanced Rolfer

We emphasize that the workshop is an introduction to IFS and not a specific training in the model, which Peter Legård Nielsen arranges in collaboration with the IFS Institute in the USA. See more about the training here. The workshop is therefore also a good way to investigate whether the IFS training itself is something for you. NOTE! Admission to the official IFS training Level 1 requires that you are a psychologist or approved psychotherapist or similar. Read all about the criteria here.
